Ouachita Story House is an independent storytelling company creating books, curriculum, and creative resources for families, classrooms, homeschool communities, libraries, and churches. From children's literature and teacher guides to ministry resources and storytelling experiences, everything we create is designed to spark imagination, strengthen character, and inspire the next generation of storytellers. The moon hung low over the Three-Rivers Swamp, heavy and golden like a scoop of butter slapped onto hot cornbread.
Billy Bob Big Feet sat on the edge of the dock, feet dangling just above the dark water. Next to him, Foxy was halfway through a bag of fried crawdad skins and all the way through his third retelling of the family feud.
“I’m tellin’ you, it started with a gator named Colonel Slippers,” Foxy said, crumbs flying.
Billy didn’t look up. “Last time you said he stole a wedding bouquet.”
“Same wedding, different day,” Foxy said. “You can’t trust a gator with charisma. Or shoulders.”
Billy didn’t reply. He was watching ripples spread across the surface of the water. No wind, no breeze. Just movement, slow and steady, like the swamp was breathing.
“You ever wonder if the stories are keepin’ us stuck?” he asked quietly.
Foxy blinked. “What, like... cursed?”
“No. Like... we keep telling ’em so much we stop lookin’ past ’em.”
